In Part IV of the Globalization Handbook, Bill Hall continues to explain, illustrate and demonstrate the process of making an application truly international using the Microsoft .NET platform. As with Parts I, II and III, Part IV is published in PDF format; each section is available separately for download. Hall also plans to provide updates in the same format as .NET evolves into newer versions.
Four substantial chapters comprise Part IV. The first two chapters cover the String class — first its fields, properties and constructors; then String class methods. The third chapter discusses the CompareInfo and SortKey classes, and the final chapter explains two further classes, TextInfo and StringInfo. All chapters are thoroughly illustrated with screenshots, tables, code snippets and other illustrations to help the reader understand and use the information. Almost all examples in this part have been updated to .NET 2.0/3.0. Hall draws from a worldwide array of languages to create his examples — five sorting orders for various forms of Chinese, for example, and other illustrations of sorting in Slovak, Japanese katakana and hiragana, Finnish, Georgian, German, Hungarian and Spanish.
In printed form, this section is more than 100 pages of solid, tested internationalization guidance.
